Begin the dream meditation by sitting in a quiet place with your back straight and your hands on your lap palms up. Close your eyes and relax. Imagine yourself returning to your dream. Feel yourself moving deeper into the reality of the dream. Feel your dream body. Feel something in the dream with your hands. All this brings you deeper into the dream meditation. Don’t try to live the dream exactly as it happened when you were asleep. Stay open to whatever happens while looking for key elements of the original dream. Interact with the part of the dream you are curious about. It can be a person, animal, tree, or rock. Everything in your dream is a living part of yourself and is capable of communication with you. Ask them “What aspect of my reality do you create and sustain?” or “Why are you in my dream at this time?”. Look and listen. Be completely open to their response. They might change form giving you an answer. They might answer you with speech, perhaps even asking you a question back. Interact as much as possible. See them as parts of yourself. Any exchange of emotion is good. It’s a healing process. Ugly things represent unconsciousness. If something appears scary at first, you will witness them becoming more beautiful and familiar as you get to know them. This is a sure sign of progress. It means that what was repressed and disturbing has become conscious and harmonious. This interaction should help you understand your dream better. It should increase inner peace and improve insight if practiced regularly. Don’t be afraid. Ultimately your dealing with yourself. Dream meditation techniques are a way of getting to know yourself better.
